Villa Langer (EID 1-06159) – comprehensive renovation of the villa and the park
On Monday, September 28, 2026, a ceremonial opening of the renovated Langer villa with its park will take place in Maribor.
The villa was commissioned by the glazier Joseph Langer in the mid-19th century as his summer residence. It was designed as an ambitious residential building. z The orange grove, which is not typical for the wider area. In addition to the villa, a public park was landscaped in a landscape style. Over time, the villa's users repeatedly changed its content and purpose, and consequently its appearance and meaning; the park was gradually filled with sports activities.
The history of the area around the villa with the park is little known to the citizens today, partly forgotten. It represents one of the more interesting multi-faceted spaces of Maribor’s cultural heritage, as its use spans from prehistoric times to the present day. To enable visitors to explore and walk through the time depths and changes of this space, we, together with the City Municipality of Maribor, prepared an exhibition that can be viewed in the appendices (design and printing: Medijski guruji, company for integrated communication d.o.o.). We invite you to travel.
The comprehensive renovation of the villa and park took place between 2024 and 2026 in close collaboration between the designer (MF arhitektura d.o.o.), construction, craft and archaeological contractors, supervision, the investor, and the professional staff of the Maribor branch unit of the institute (responsible conservator Nina Nahtigal and colleagues: Miran Krivec, mag. Nastja Nylaander, Mihela Kajzer and Gorazd Gerlič).
