Begunje in Gorenjska

Plechkinova Brejznika shone again in a renewed guise

In early October 2026, the major flood restoration and renovation of Plečnik's pavilion Brezjanka in the park of the Katzenstein castle in Begunje na Gorenjskem was completed. The pavilion, designed by architect Jože Plečnik in 1939 and declared a cultural monument of national importance, was damaged in the extensive floods in August 2023.

The restoration included the repair of the foundations and paved platform, the conservation of the wooden structure, the arrangement of drainage systems, and the immediate surroundings of the pavilion. Special attention was paid to preserving the original materials and the historical characteristics of the building, which was relocated to its current location in 1954.

The project was carried out in collaboration with the Municipality of Radovljica, ZVKDS – Regional Unit Kranj, the Restoration Centre, and other participating experts. With the completed restoration, Brezjanka has regained its recognizable appearance and an important place in the historical park.
