Creator of space, guardian of heritage and memory
2026 marks the 20th anniversary of the death of architect and humanist Vlasto Kopač. On this anniversary, museums, institutions and individuals have come together to preserve his heritage and legacy. Through numerous events and activities throughout the year, we will present the diverse areas of his work and highlight his importance for Slovenian space, cultural landscape and shared memory.
Vlasto Kopač worked in many fields. Space was at the centre of his interest. He understood it holistically - as an interplay of architecture, landscape, history and human experience - and approached it with deep respect and responsibility. His work has a special place for heritage, for the preservation of memory, and for projects that continue to stimulate reflection on the past and the future, even today.
Vlasto Kopač was Director of the Ljubljana Institute for Monument Protection from 1962 until his retirement in 1969.
With the events in 2026, we want to bring the public closer to the richness and diversity of Kopač's creative oeuvre and life, to revive his memory, and to highlight the values he upheld that remain relevant today.

Vlasto Kopač - Tiha moč ustvarjanja
Vljudno vabljeni na predstavitev zbornika Vlasto Kopač - tiha moč ustvarjanja, ki bo v sredo, 10. junija 2026 ob 19. uri v Medobčinskem muzeju Kamnik na gradu Zaprice, Muzejska pot 3, Kamnik.

Vlasto Kopač – with a sensitivity for people and space
At the Intermunicipal Museum in Kamnik, we will open an exhibition on May 6th, 2026, at 7 PM. The exhibition is dedicated to Vlasto Kopač, honouring his efforts in preserving and protecting Velika planina, with a special focus on his projects in Kamnik. The exhibition will be open until the end of 2026.
