International Conference on Restoration

polychromed wooden sculpture

14.-16. OCTOBER 2024 National Gallery Ljubljana

In order to bring the interested public closer to the current trends in the field of restoration of polychrome wooden sculpture, the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia, the Association of Restorers of Slovenia and the Slovenian Conservation Society are organising lectures on conservation and restoration interventions on examples of wooden sculpture from Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Croatia, Germany and Belgium. The conference will address issues faced by conservators, restorers and clients. Various examples will be used to present contemporary conservation and restoration approaches, bearing in mind that the object is still in use in church services. The lecturers will present past and present conservation and restoration approaches and the problems encountered today with objects that have been restored in the past.

The conference will also present preventive conservation, which is extremely important for the preservation of wooden furnishings in churches.
