Strategy 21

Introducing

Strategy 21 puts the spotlight on integrated heritage management: its "recommendations" present different ways to meet the challenges of a multidisciplinary, collaborative and ambitious approach to each of its three components: "society", "spatial and economic development", and "knowledge and education". Strategy 21 also provides a substantive starting point for the Slovenian Cultural Heritage Strategy, which is in the final stages of preparation.

The publication presents a selection of more than 100 good practices published on the website 21 Strategies.

Two projects from Slovenia were selected for the gold award:

  • Debela Griža as an example of good practice in implementing the recommendation of Strategy 21 by taking heritage into account in sustainable tourism development policies (D7).
  • Re-use of rural buildings in Slovenia under the rural development programme - as an example of good practice in promoting the re-use of heritage and traditional knowledge and practices.
