7th international SEE Mosaics meeting
The 7th International Professional Meeting SEE Mosaics will be held in Ljubljana from October 13 to 16, 2026.
How to preserve the mosaic heritage in the era of climate change? This is the central question of the 7th International Expert Meeting SEE Mosaics, which will take place in Ljubljana from 13 to 16 October 2026. The meeting will bring together conservators-restorers, archaeologists, researchers, and other experts who are engaged in the protection and preservation of ancient and modern mosaics.
Hosting the meeting is an important milestone in the more than fifteen-year development of the field of conservation-restoration of mosaics in Slovenia. Since the first international symposium in Ljubljana in 2010, workshops in Simon’s Bay in 2011, and the second symposium in 2015, professional meetings, international collaboration, and experience from concrete projects have significantly contributed to the development of domestic professional knowledge.
This year's meeting is titled Reconsidering the protection of the mosaic heritage in the face of climate challenges – conservation, preservation and restoration (Reconsidering Protection of Mosaic Heritage in the Face of Climate Challenges – Conservation, Preservation and Restoration) It will highlight the impacts of changing environmental conditions on the mosaic heritage. Examples from different countries will be presented, ranging from the preservation of ancient mosaics at archaeological sites to the challenges of safeguarding contemporary mosaics in public spaces. Special attention will be given to conservation decisions, research, monitoring of the state of the art, and the search for long-term solutions for the preservation of this valuable heritage.
The SEE Mosaics meeting is an opportunity to exchange experiences, critically reflect on current practices, and strengthen international cooperation. Because the successful preservation of mosaics depends not only on individual interventions, but also on understanding the monument, its environment, and the responsibility for its future.
