OHS Awards 2026

Renovation of the outbuilding at Prešeren's birth house received the Open House Slovenia award

We are delighted to announce that the renovation of the commercial building next to the Prešeren Homestead in Vrba has received the Open House Slovenia – OHS Award 2026 in the Public, Social, and Business Projects category.

The OHS Award is also special because the award winners are chosen not only by experts, but by the public – visitors to the Open House Slovenia festival, who have experienced the projects in person, got to know them through guided tours, and voted for those that resonated with them the most. This year, over 30,000 votes were cast, and the award is presented to the entire project team: architects, engineers, clients, contractors, investors, and other participants.

The accredited conservators from ZVKDS participated in the award-winning project Saša Roškar in collaboration with Renato Pamić, Nataša Koruza, Irena Potočnik, Irena Vesel and Mateja Kavčič. The project was realised in collaboration with numerous experts and partners – the investor was the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia, the architecture and interior design was conceived by Atelje Ostan Pavlin, and the Gorenjski muzej, designers, contractors, supervisors, and other members of the project team also participated in the project.

For the ZVKDS, the award is particularly valuable as it confirms the importance of thoughtful renovation of cultural heritage – one that respects the historical space, opens it up to new content, and returns it to the people. The economic building next to Prešeren's birthplace is thus not just a renovated structure, but a space where heritage, architecture, and public life connect to form a new story.

Sincere congratulations to everyone involved in the project and thank you to all who recognised the importance of quality heritage renovation.
