7th international SEE Mosaics meeting
From 13 to 16 October 2026, Ljubljana will host the 7th international professional meeting SEE Mosaics, which will bring together conservators-restorers, archaeologists, researchers, and other experts in the field of the protection and preservation of mosaic heritage.
This year's meeting is titled Reconsidering the protection of the mosaic heritage in the face of climate challenges – conservation, preservation and restoration It will put the focus on the impacts of climate and environmental changes on the preservation of ancient and modern mosaics.
Over the four days, case studies from different countries will be presented, and experts will exchange experiences and discuss conservation approaches, research, monitoring of the state of the art, and long-term solutions for safeguarding the mosaic heritage.
The meeting represents an important opportunity for the exchange of knowledge, the networking of experts, and the strengthening of international cooperation in the field of conservation-restoration of mosaics.

On October 13, the 7th International Professional Meeting SEE Mosaics began at the City Museum of Ljubljana. The participants were welcomed by Blaž Peršin, Director of the Museum and Galleries of the City of Ljubljana, Jernej Hudolin, Director General of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia, Vilijem Leban, Acting Director General of the Directorate for Cultural Heritage at the Ministry of Culture, and Dr. Maja Franković from the National Museum of Serbia. Jernej Hudolin highlighted the progress in the field of conservation and restoration of mosaics in Slovenia over the last two decades and the importance of professional knowledge, practical experience, and international cooperation. Vilijem Leban praised the dedication and professionalism of the participants and emphasized that their work is not only crucial for the preservation of cultural heritage but also for cultural identity. He also highlighted the importance of institutional and financial support for this type of professional work. Dr. Maja Franković presented the SEE Mosaics project, which connects experts and institutions and promotes the exchange of knowledge in the field of safeguarding mosaic heritage. The introductory part was followed by a keynote presentation by Alessandra Bonazza on the impacts of climate change on cultural heritage and the assessment of risks.
