Church of the Holy Trinity in Hrastovlje
The Church of the Holy Trinity is one of the most recognisable and comprehensive monuments of medieval heritage in Slovenia. Its special value is due to its exceptionally well-preserved architectural design and the mighty 16th-century camp walls, which, together with the church, form one of the best-preserved fortified church complexes in Slovenia.
The most important feature of the Hrastovlje church is its fully painted interior with an exceptionally extensive and iconographically rich fresco ensemble, including the famous Dance of the Dead. The surviving inscriptions in Glagolitic and Latin and the numerous graffiti are valuable historical sources. The movable furnishings are also an important part of the heritage, including the altars, the bell of 1469 and the rare reliquary with the record of the consecration of the church.
