International conference on Baroque stucco-carved altars
In Ljubljana, on September 16 and 17, 2026, an international conference on Baroque stucco altars took place, which brought together domestic and foreign experts in the fields of research, conservation, and restoration of stucco.
The first day of the conference was dedicated to expert lectures and presentations, through which participants shed light on various aspects of stucco marble – from its history, materials, and manufacturing techniques to modern approaches to research, conservation, and restoration. The lectures and discussions provided an opportunity for the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and examples of good practices from different backgrounds.
The second day was also dedicated to professional content; the participants also linked the theory with a direct visit to exceptional examples of stucco marble in Ljubljana. They viewed Stucco marble altars in the Ursuline Church of St. Trinity and the Church of St. Florian, where the contents and approaches can be presented and also learned about them through concrete examples.
The two-day meeting thus provided a space for the connection of different disciplines, the exchange of experiences, and a deeper reflection on the importance of preserving this particular genre of Baroque art and heritage.
At the conclusion of the conference, we thank all the speakers, experts, participants, and visitors who contributed their knowledge, experience, and discussions to the successful implementation of the event.
