The prison wall and the old cultural landscape between Sv. Ahac and Stražica near Ilirska Bistrica

When checking the border wall mentions and reports thatif by western
on the slopes of the Snežnica plateau between the sites of St. Ahac and Stražica near Ilirska Bistrica, we have also identified, through the analysis of airborne laser scanning images, the remains of an old, probably prehistoric, land division and cultural landscape, judging by the shape analogies, which is located in the vicinity of the Trnovo castle above Ilirska Bistrica. The remains of an old, probably prehistoric, land division and cultural landscape are located in the vicinity of the Trnovo castle above Ilirska Bistrica. The traces, ditches and mounds, lie in the valley between two enclosing walls; the shorter one, at the lower left edge of thisif via Stražice, and a longer one, almost 3.5 km long, whichif from the right edge of the picture and turn left towards Ahac Castle.
Since in Ilirskobystrica we are obviously dealing with sites with continuous settlement from prehistoric times to antiquity, in this case we can also count on a unique continuity of land use and rural organisation from prehistoric times to antiquity. The many archaeological traces that can be identified in the area in question are thus probably the result of inhumations in use from prehistoric times to Late Antiquity. These features also allow us to deduce the age of the prison wall, since the hill between St. Ahac and Za Stražica is part of this landscape and included in it. Remote sensing methods such as airborne laser scanning show time and again that the landscape is nowhere empty, everywhere full of traces of human activity from the past. This multitude of traces presents us with the challenge of how to protect them.

Remnants of the past cultural landscape in the area behind Stražica.
