The theme of the 35th European Heritage Days and the 13th Heritage Week, Walls of our Past, Foundation of our Future, is an excellent starting point for exploring, learning about and understanding heritage as part of our lives, our identities, while at the same time challenging us to create new perspectives, approaches and perceptions.
At the heart of this year's theme is the idea that we should see the richness, the value and, ultimately, the value of our built, architectural and immovable cultural heritage. Each one of us shapes the spaces in which we live by the choices we make. It is right that we preserve our heritage in doing so.
The theme is multi-faceted. On the one hand, we can discover the diverse genres and stylistic characteristics of the built heritage, we can focus on famous or lesser-known architects, we can explore the stories of the people who lived in the buildings, or we can focus on the re-use or renovation of the built heritage. Or it can be an opportunity to build on past themes, such as Valuable skills and professions.
