Maribor Day 2026
The Maribor Regional Unit of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia will also join the celebration of Day of Maribor in 2026, when the city will mark its first written mention on October 20th as Castrum Marchburch in 1164.
As part of the free activities that will take place between October 16 and 20, we will be conducting guided tours of modernist heritage sites, the Langer Villa with its park and the archaeological site at the Pyramid, as well as an interactive game. Heritage detective, A walk through Baroque Maribor and intergenerational exploration of heritage, architecture, nature and legends on the Maribor Island.
This year we have paid special attention to modernist monuments of architecture, landscape architecture and urbanism, about which we, together with the Provincial Archives of Maribor, prepared a publication. This time, in a slightly different way. Through creative graphic design, we reveal the deeper meanings and present current messages for today's times. We intertwine the selected monuments with the spirit of that time, with constructivist poetry and architectural innovations, thereby commemorating two important anniversaries: the centenary of the death of Srečko Kosovel (1904–1926) and the tenth anniversary of the death of Branko Kraševac (1927–2016), who significantly marked time and space.
During Maribor Day, the selected monuments will come to life through our stories. We invite you to join us and together with us discover how they have marked the city.
