Restoration comprises a variety of activities that are directly carried out on the heritage building or object with the purpose of facilitating its enjoyment, understanding and use.

Restoration centre

As a part of the state public services, the Restoration Centre manages the development of the conservation and restoration professions, as well as executes direct undertakings on the monuments owned by the state. The Restoration Centre also carries out direct undertakings on monuments in private ownership, for which it manages and carries out preliminary surveys, draws up conservation plans and the conservation and restoration project documentation for the undertakings it executes. The centre also devotes special attention to research, promotional and educational tasks.

Current activities

On the basis of studies, the IPCHS Restoration Centre created a conservation plan for the Church of the Assumption, located on Bled island, at the beginning of 2016. On these basis the first phase of the conservation and restoration of the church began in May, 2016.

The jubilee 50th edition of Varstvo spomenikov commemorates the publication on the conservation and protection of cultural heritage – Varstvo spomenikov.

The renovation work started on the 7th of September and was completed on the 3rd of October 2018, when the Aljaž Turret was returned to its rightful home to the top of Mt. Triglav.

The Aljaž Turret, a monument of national importance (heritage register number 5531) and one of the most recognisable Slovenian national symbols, is undergoing a full-scale renovation in September 2018.

In recent years Heritage Science has been successfully evolving into an important interdisciplinary scientific field, which includes modern research infrastructure and excellent scientists that are now developing E-RIHS – European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science.

Departments

The Restoration Centre is made up of eight departments: documentation and library department, project planning department, natural science department, classic canvas painting department, wall painting department, wood department, stone and stuccowork department, and the general department. Each type of heritage requires special treatment, the details are hidden in the procedures, materials used and the methods that are specific to each kind of heritage.
