Back in 1991 Slovenia, along with a number of other European countries, was one of the founders and initiators of the Days of European Cultural Heritage.
The first DECH coordinator in Slovenia, Jerneja Batič, signed the accession declaration on behalf of the country and was in charge of the events until 1998.
During this time she also established the DECH series, which today contains 16 titles. In 1999 coordination was taken over by Damjana Prešeren Slabe, who filled that role for the next seven years.
The current coordinator for Slovenia is Milena Antonič.
